A123Systems to supply Chrysler EV line
It’s difficult to play up such announcements when Chrysler is on the verge of bankruptcy, but it’s still good news that the auto giant has chosen A123Systems to supply its first generation of EV vehicles with lithium-ion batteries. Having come second in the race to supply General Motors, A123Systems still announced plans to manufacture its batteries in Michigan. This gamble paid off, as Chrysler and A123Systems can now claim to have “Made In America” EVs, something GM can’t claim. The two companies are already playing up this patriotic angle.

Who chose that name for the company?
“Huh, lots of battery company names are taken…”
“Uhh, what about battech?”
“No no, that sounds like we make batmans stuff…”
“Oh…Ok, how about A123 Systems?”
“GREAT!!!”
Followed by the guys at GM:
“We need a good battery for the Volt…”
“Hey, A123Systems is first in the phone book, they MUST be good!”
“GREAT!”
