Regulator approves Toronto Hydro discount plan
The Ontario Energy Board has approved Toronto Hydro’s 10/10 Program (read earlier post), which offers a 10 per cent discount to Torontonians who can reduce their energy consumption during July 15 to Sept. 15 by 10 per cent. It will be interesting to see whether the utility achieves its target of having 33 per cent of its customer base qualify for the discount.

According to my simple calculations if I reduce my energy consumption by 10% and then Toronto Hydro gives me 10% discount on that reduced use then I actually have just shaved 19% off my potential costs. Not bad at all.
I am curious what would happen if, in Ontario, Premier Dalton McGuinty diverted the billions he is planning on wasting on nuclear (which wont even be available for over a decade) into conservation and more renewable resources. I think the only negative impact would be that several nuclear consultants and lobbyists might have to rethink their retirement plans.
