Solar progress, methanol-juiced laptops, and hybrid hype
CNET’s News.com has a decent overview of the solar market, including the different players and approaches out there to combatting the shortage of solar-grade silicon and driving down cost. Worth a quick read.
News.com also has a story about a company called UltraCell that has a methanol-powered micro fuel cell capable of powering a laptop for 14 hours. A prototype is being shown off at the Intel Developers Forum.
I also point you to this Wired.com article about how the term ”hybrid” is being used too loosely by carmakers, and that most hybrids aren’t achieving the kind of fuel savings that consumers likely expect or imagine. The piece also takes a look at some conflicting claims about the technology under the hood.
