		<description>I was bike riding with a friend a couple weeks ago, and said &quot;gas prices seem set for a perfect storm&quot; ... and his answer was just &quot;yup.&quot;  Now, we might just be a couple anal, small-car-driving, engineers ... but I agree that the reality was that we were strectched tight before this particular (real and not metaphorical) storm.

That said, I think this hurricane might be counterproductive in terms of getting the word out about long term oil supplies (whether you call that &quot;peak oil&quot; or not).

The problem is that most people will see this as clearly a once-in-a-lifetime event, and (forgetting that oil prices were almost $70 weeks ago) will take &quot;peak oil&quot; as crazy talk.

They can &lt;b&gt;see&lt;/b&gt; the hurricane, and they&#039;ll say that&#039;s all it is.
