Street lights in Dutch city go LED
Philips is claiming to have lit up the first street lamps in the world with LED technology, according to a report from Reuters. While double the price of ordinary lights used in street lamps, Philips says the LED lights will pay for themselves over time because they last thousands of hours longer. The installation was done in the Dutch town of Ede. As I’ve said in previous posts, it won’t be long before LEDs hit the mainstream for general purpose lighting.

Seems odd that Philips would claim to have the only LED streetlight.
Here are just a few links to some others:

The first on this list has 1600 lumens, by far the strongest I’ve seen listed anywhere. It seems to cover at least 120 feet, too.
