Purolator delivers, but will others follow?
Here’s a column of mine that appears in today’s Star, which takes a closer look at Purolator’s decision to begin transforming its delivery fleet to hybrid vehicles. It also discusses the lack of government support when it comes to encouraging corporate fleet operators to make similar moves. Purolator, by taking the plunge, is hoping to show that the decision makes business sense in the long term. Maybe then, its CEO speculates, will the government see the logic in mandating fleet conversion and providing incentives that will smooth the transition.
(Update: Noticed today (June
that United Parcel Service of America Inc. has ordered 800 new delivery trucks from two Ontario truckmakers for $5.6 million. While it would have been nice to see UPS making a purchase of 800 hybrids, I found this link on the company’s Web site and ”Brown” appears to be quite progressive in this area.)
